Welcome to the first post of what will be a weekly feature on In Spaces Between.
Gratitude. Giving thanks. Showing appreciation. Keeping our eyes on the positives. The notion of keeping a gratitude list or journal has been floating around the the internet for years now and for good reason. They work. When you’re in a state of appreciation, you’re also in a state of abundance – your focus is on what you’ve received, not what you don’t have, and I truly believe you always get more of what you focus on.
Basically, you get what you expect.
Whether the result of that thinking is good or bad is up to the individual, but I’m quite partial to nice things and feeling upbeat (and I know you are too) so I propose we make it a regular habit to document the things we’re grateful for and the things bringing a smile to our faces, right here on In Spaces Between. I’ve got a few things to share with you from the past week, so without any further ado, here goes with my love list:
1. Launching In Spaces Between (of course!)
I’ve wanted to create a site like In Spaces Between for quite a while now, and I’m so happy that my dream finally came to fruition this week. Making me even more ecstatic is the incredible support I’ve received from friends and family who’ve written me beautiful and encouraging messages – huge thanks and big love to you all, it means the world to me to have you along for the ride. I’ve got a million and one ideas for this blog, so stay tuned!
2. A manifesto for the women of the world
This manifesto… WOW. These are the truths that every woman needs to hear, beautifully written by inspired-living coach Goddess Star Monroe. I especially love the line “You are beautiful not for the shape of the vessel, but for the volume of the soul it carries.” Share this with the special women in your life.
3. Pretty pink peonies
Peonies are my favourite flowers (followed closely by tulips and oriental lillies) and I’m going a bit gaga over the coral/ pink variety at the moment. Searching for wedding inspiration isn’t helping, they just keep popping up everywhere!
4. Watching the sun come up
This is what winter looks like where I live. Yep, I do have to pinch myself on occasion! I snapped these shots on our Lumix LX-5 (which has a great wide angle lens and is a cool little camera for those wanting something in between a point-and-shoot and an SLR) of the sun coming up over the beach yesterday morning as we wandered around Burleigh Heads National Park. It’s pretty hard to have a bad day when it begins like this.
5. Victoria’s Secret
Hello, boys! Nothing like a Victoria’s Secret model to get your attention, hey?
Making me very happy this week are Victoria’s Secret’s ‘The Lacie Hiphugger’ knickers – also known as the most comfortable underwear on the planet! These puppies are super cute and available in a huge range of gorgeous bright colours and patterns. I can confirm that the comfort factor is on par with our old friend Bonds, but with added phwoar factor! I stocked up massively on VS underwear in the States in April (I’m not a fan of the word ‘thong’ – as they refer to them on their site – but I can assure you the thoooongs are rather perfect as well) but just noticed there is a sale on their website, and with the Aussie dollar being so good… well, it would be criminal not to. Right?
6. Road trips + long lunches
Ramai and I celebrated five magical years together recently and had such a great time relaxing over a glass of bubbles and a delicious meal at our new fave restaurant Harvest. It was one of those days where we couldn’t stop smiling, the sun was shining brightly, we had a brilliant catch up with our wedding planner, and it all just felt so… peaceful. Love that. I met the little guy in the photo above when we pulled over to take a shot of the view looking towards Byron Bay beach. Such a dude.
7. Bikes + flowers
Flowers attached to bicycles. Flowers poking out of baskets on bikes. I don’t know what it is but I love this whimsical look. When I have my little white beachside cottage, I’ll definitely be recreating this for the entrance way.
8. Online interior design magazines
Hands up if you like interior design magazines? If you’ve got two hands in the air right now, I think you’re going to love the latest issues of digital magazines Collected, Rue, Lonny and Est. They’re free and full of great decorating and styling ideas. Enjoy!
And now it’s your turn: what’s made you happy this week? Share your big, juicy love list in the comments below. Can’t wait to hear it!
