“Hello, sun in my face. Hello you who made the morning and spread it over the fields…Watch, now, how I start the day in happiness, in kindness.” ~ Mary Oliver
1. Birthdays!
Today is my 29th birthday and I. AM. EXCITED.
Excited because this year has been grand, magnificent, majestic.
Excited because NEXT YEAR is going to be one I’ll remember forever (hello wedding, hello European honeymoon, hello 30th birthday party, hello off-the-richter happiness).
Excited because I am surrounded by the most supportive, thoughtful, brilliant people who inspire me to reach higher every day.
And finally, I may or may not also be excited by the prospect of cake (!)
I’ve been super spoilt this morning by my amazing fiancé (see below – I’m a lucky girl!) and have been for a run, enjoyed a yummy breakfast and received lots of beautiful messages, which I’m so grateful for. I’m definitely on a birthday high!
I also have something for you, but you’ll have to tune in later today to find out what it is.
Finally, to give you a heads up: I’ve decided my present to myself is a bit of time off writing blog articles for the next week, starting today. I’ve got a bunch of writing to do for our wedding website and after a very crazy year, I’m hanging out to unwind a little over the weekend at my party and enjoy some “commitment-free” time off. I won’t go into my schedule for December but let’s just say there are currently five days that don’t have something (a task, must-do, work function, Xmas function, birthday) assigned to them, which is a bit scary. Bring on the Xmas break, I say!
2. Brand New Babes
On Monday, my best friend Megan (that glorious looking mama in the picture above – it should be criminal to look that good on the day you gave birth!) welcomed her little girl Mabel Jade to the world with her amazing man Greg.
I’m seriously in love, Mabel is so adorable with long, delicate fingers and the cutest little button nose you’ve ever seen. There was so much love in the room yesterday when we went down to the hospital to meet our “niece” and I had tears in my eyes as I witnessed Jarvis (their 18 month old little man) meet his new baby sister. So precious. It’s moments like those you want to bottle up and keep forever.
3. Proteas
Still adore them.
4. The Killing
I barely watch TV but we’ve been getting majorly into The Killing, a moody, intellectual, totally intriguing American show adapted from a Danish series of the same plot.
It’s addictive and intense (this review sums it up) and although we only started watching on the weekend, we’ve nearly finished Season One already. Check it out, I guarantee it’ll suck you in too!
5. Office Decorating
I promise I’ll stop going on about our new office but just wanted to show you my workspace, which I had a lovely old time decorating last week.
Whatcha think? As you might have gathered, we’re trialling this really advanced new technology where we send telepathic messages to our contacts instead of email. Don’t even need a computer anymore. Genius!
6. Op Shop Finds
I was thrilled to find these beautiful pieces of Blue Willow china at the op shop this week. They’re in perfect condition and the whole lot came in at under $20. Sweet!
7. Books and Mags
This is just half of the stack I have sitting on my bedside table at the moment. Looks like I’m going to be busy on the Christmas holidays, doesn’t it? Can’t wait to read the Roald Dahl bio, I’ve heard it’s amazing! What are you reading at the moment?
Marvellous morsels:
+ L.O.V.E + O-Sushi (best sushi on the GC by far!) + writing some of the content for our wedding website, sobbing my heart out (tears of joy of course, it’s emotional talking about the most important people in your life!) + b’day party anticipation + hearing other people’s love stories + honouring my limits + head massages and awesome blow dries + meeting our wedding celebrant – she is a gorgeous soul and we’re thrilled she’ll be there on our special day!
+ Okay, let the love-fest begin – what’s making you happy? What are you thankful for this week? Let’s natter away in the comments below! Oh, and don’t forget to check back in later today… x

Another awesome post Rach, I love reading these! And that tea set is too cute! I hope that you have had a wonderful birthday, it certainly seems you were spoilt ;) And your next year sounds fabulous, I hope it is even better than you can imagine!
Haha I read your giveaway post before this one and love that cake is as exciting a prospect to you as it is to me!
Your office space looks incredible and good luck with your time off. You will be missed from my daily reads!!
Things that are making me happy today is that I went home to Brisbane on the weekend because my grandpa was in hospital and we didn’t think he would make it through the weekend and now he is suddenly doing much better. I can be happy/grateful for so many things, but this week that is all that matters to me!!
Hope your birthday was ahhhh-mayyyyyyyy-zinggggg!
Happy birthday, Rach – hope it’s absolutely wonderful. You deserve it!
Also – I just decorated my little office space, too – fun!!!
Happy birthday again, lovely lady. Enjoy the day!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY WISHES!
Making me Happy – this fabulous blog and I’ve begun my christmas shopping and Net a Porter daydreaming.
x
Melissa, Aasta, Jo, Jazziefizzle: Thank you so much for your birthday wishes, feeling very loved! x
Alannah: He’s a spoiler, isn’t he? So stoked! I want to get a really nice black bag, not sure which one yet – maybe an Alexander Wang or Phillip Lim one. Our wedding website is the site that we’re doing up with all the details for our wedding, hoping it will be finished soon and then you guys can take a look if you’re interested. x
Katherine: Mmm, cake….! And glad I’ll be missed, but don’t worry, I’ll be back on board by the end of next week. So good to hear that your Grandpa is doing better, I’m sure he has lots of love around him getting him through the rough patch. Sending happy healing vibes his way. x
Lindsay: Office decorating rocks – I think it’s because it’s so easy to change things around if you feel like a “refresher†(unlike a house, that generally requires a lot more work if you want to switch up the look). Send me a pic if you get a chance! x
KP: Thank you! Good on you for starting your Xmas shopping. I’ll have a gift guide up later next week so you may find some more ideas in there for your loved ones too. x
Hi Rachel! A big happy birthday for the other day! I just wanted to let you know that since discovering your blog (and following you on pinterest, so addictive!) I have loved every one of your posts, and today I finally got around to making your raw bliss balls – they were absolutely amazing, definitely a keeper! I hope you enjoy your mini-break and I look forward to more of your lovely posts!
Thank you so much Celine (and apologies for the belated reply!) So glad you loved the bliss balls and REALLY appreciate your kind words about In Spaces Between xx
